I am sure that some of you or maybe all are trying to optimize your time when sitting in front of your computer, but going to the right directory to open program or document, waiting sites to load and then search for a specific thing and wait again is sometimes frustrating and time consuming. It seems that Ollie Kavanagh, Andrew and Vero Pepperrell had the same problems and thus they created the Alfred App.
Alfred is a tiny simple program which is speeding your interaction with the computer and increases the satisfaction and pleasure of using it and best of all its Free.
So in few words, what exactly Alfred do?

After the install (the usual drag and drop to the Application folder), you can open Alfred at any place and time, just hit the hotkey (by default its Alt + Space) and small window with input will be shown.

If you want to open specific program just start typing the name, after few strokes Alfred will show you a list with names, from which you can choose and with enter load the desired app. The same is with files, but you can type “find” before the name to reveal the file in finder.
But Alfred is not just that, the team has integrated search in various web sites like Google, Wikipedia, Amazon, IMDB, Facebook, Twtitter. Just type the site’s name and then the keyword you wish to search search for, hit Enter and voila, Safari is opened on the search results page.

To tell the truth Alfred is not a unique app, its similar to Quicksilver and if you are already a Quicksilver user, do you need to switch?
I say give it a try, because the Alfred’s team is working on improving it, while Quicksilver is discontinued and therefore no new versions are expected
Even if you don’t like the current version, wait for the final release of Alfred, for now its only beta version 0.5 but it seems that it will become more and more functions rich.
As final words: I really liked this program, its a nice alternative to the loved Quicksilver, but even lacking in functionality for now, it has a big chance to become the better choice in time.
